updating this for the first time in aeons. Anyways not much new shit goin on really. I was somewhat recently accepted to Penn State, $8,000 in scholarships, (mostly for SAT scores, because I know damn well my grades were not worthy of any type of recognition).

Incase it wasn't a widely known fact that I'm a gloating asshole, let me reassure you by posting my old SAT scores which I stumbled upon today

For those of you who are mathematically inept, that's a 1270. Not bad, got me into college with piss poor grades, so what the heck..

Flashback to 1997, during the (Bill) Clinton presidency. Clinton deems human cloning research as a "troubling prospect." He proceeds to ban the use of federal funds used to research human cloning and genetic engineering. Clinton went on to say "...we should refrain from falling to the temptation..." [of cloning human beings]. I really hope you are recognizing the satirical humor value within that sentence. And as the United States condemns further human cloning research, overseas nations continue to research it, thus surpassing us in another aspect of science and medicine.

The pros of human cloning and genetic engineering, in my humble opinion, significantly outweigh the cons. If we were to, in the future, find a sure-proof cloning/genetic engineering method which was proven safe and efficient, the possibilities would be nearly endless. Let me put this into perspective.. Infertile couples could have children of their own, truly spawned from their own DNA. a person whom carries a recessive gene for a certain inherited disease, could have a child cloned, and eliminate the particular genome which bears the disease trait, ultimately eliminating the inherited disease from the future of the family's lineage. Transplantation efficiency could become safer and more efficient, by means of genetically engineering the body part which the person is lacking, from that same person's own genomes. The stress of looking for a suitable willing donor, with the compatible body part, would be eliminated. Even more menial operations, like cosmetic and reconstructive surgery would become safer, as the person's own genomes could be used, rather than synthetic compounds. in essence, cloning would only enhance, and lessen the risk involved in many medical practices. this is empirical justification for cloning and genetic engineering research.

I'll probably follow this up with an explanation on why most of the common grudges against cloning are, in actuality, unwarranted.

some shit to mull on

So I recently finished reading a couple of books, the first being "Live from Death Row" by Mumia Abu-Jamal. One of Mumia's later novels, actually apparently written as a first-hand account from Pennsylvania's death row facility. I also recently, (for the most part, excluding several seemingly irrelevant chapters) finished reading Dennett's metaphysics symposium on human conciousness "Consciousness Explained". So after finishing these books I was out of shit to read, so i headed to the library and picked up a couple new ones. B.F Skinner's "Behaviorism" and Nathan Hyzhal's "Biomedical Ethics". the second one i mentioned has, thus far, proven to be much more interesting, as it explores the moral ethics of a lot of different medical procedures.

The triad of separately functioning nervous systems (within the nervous system)

The nervous system within the human body can be, not so much physically, rather just for the purpose of understanding it better, divided into three separate parts. In other words, within the general human nervous system, there are three separately functioning systems (almost like sub-systems). The first is an interoceptive system, which is related to internal functions, sensations and feelings. This interoceptive system contains most of the internal organs and body parts such as the stomach, heart, certain arteries and such, and deals with feelings such as hunger, happiness, etc.. Another is an extereoceptive system, which contains most of the bodily parts which recieve and relay kinesthetic feedback (minus the brain, which is consequentally related to the the nervous system in its entirety) and deals with external bodily sensations like feeling pain. It also enables people to use their five basic senses, taste, touch, etc... The other system is a proprioceptive system which deals with muscle, joint and tendon functionality, and enables bodily movement. This third system is also conducive to maintaining posture. i can remember after gaining this general knowledge, my mind immediately went in all different directions, and this knowledge just begged a plethora of questions. I now wonder if detriments to any of these systems, whether naturally or possibly physically inflicted, could result in bodily disorders (IE physical retardation, mitochondrial diseases, etc) It seems logical, but i cannot decide on the level of plausibility of this theory. now watch a video..
